Aden — The Southern Transitional Council (STC) has called on the United States to broaden its terrorism lists to include the Yemeni branch of the Muslim Brotherhood, stressing that designating “Yemen’s Brotherhood” as a terrorist organization would strengthen counterterrorism efforts, promote accountable governance, and protect fragile communities from the spread of extremist influence.
The STC stated that the Brotherhood in Yemen has fueled conflict in southern provinces, obstructed humanitarian aid delivery, and created enabling conditions for continued Houthi attacks on U.S. interests, while also undermining the efforts of Washington’s local partners in counterterrorism.
The Council reaffirmed its openness to constructive engagement with the United States and regional allies to bolster security and stability.
It emphasized its commitment to dismantling the conditions that allow extremist groups to operate, and highlighted the responsibility of security forces on the ground to confront authoritarian ideologies cloaked in religion and safeguard the region against multiple threats.
