New York — The United Nations has issued a stark warning about the escalating humanitarian crisis in Yemen, urging renewed efforts toward a comprehensive political settlement to end the protracted conflict.
During his daily press briefing at UN Headquarters in New York, Stéphane Dujarric, Spokesperson for Secretary-General António Guterres, cautioned that the situation in Yemen remains “extremely dire,” with millions of civilians facing acute food insecurity and a collapse of essential services.
Dujarric stressed that the absence of a political solution continues to fuel instability and violations, directly impacting civilians across the country.
He highlighted that dwindling humanitarian funding is compounding the crisis, leaving health care, water access, and other vital services at risk of further deterioration.
“The humanitarian and security conditions in Yemen are deteriorating rapidly. Without a comprehensive political solution, the suffering of millions will only deepen,” Dujarric said.
The UN reiterated its appeal to all parties to prioritize dialogue and commit to a nationwide ceasefire, emphasizing that only a negotiated settlement can pave the way for sustainable peace and alleviate the suffering of Yemen’s population.
