BRUSSELS -- The European Commission announced Wednesday that it has allocated €85 million in initial humanitarian funding for Yemen in 2026. The aid will be delivered through EU humanitarian partners, primarily UN agencies and non-governmental organizations.

According to the statement, the funding aims to address urgent life-saving needs and protect millions of the most vulnerable groups, including displaced persons and migrants, while supporting communities affected by ongoing conflict, displacement, and natural disasters such as droughts and floods.

The Commission noted that the funds will be directed toward tackling acute food insecurity and malnutrition, strengthening the health sector, providing emergency shelter, financing specialized protection services, supporting mine clearance activities, and advancing education and child protection programs, among other humanitarian interventions.

The statement highlighted that the EU’s initial humanitarian budget for 2026 amounts to €1.9 billion, dedicated to life-saving assistance in crisis zones worldwide. Allocations include:

- €557 million for West and Central Africa and the Sahel

- €463 million for the Middle East and North Africa

- €145 million for Ukraine

- €126 million for Afghanistan, Pakistan, and Iran

- €95 million for Central and South America and the Caribbean

- €73 million for Southeast Asia and the Pacific

- Over €415 million for sudden emergencies and to safeguard strategic supply chains

Since the outbreak of the war in Yemen in 2015, the European Commission has provided approximately €1.6 billion in support, including over €1 billion in humanitarian aid and nearly half a billion euros in development assistance and peacebuilding efforts.
