Aden - The Israeli military announced Monday evening that it had intercepted a drone launched by Yemen’s Houthis over the Mediterranean Sea, marking a significant escalation in the ongoing confrontation between the two sides.
According to Israeli media, the drone was intercepted several kilometers off the coast of Tel Aviv. No injuries or damage were reported. The Houthis claimed responsibility, stating they had launched five drones—four targeting Eilat and one aimed at a “military facility in Jaffa.”
The incident comes just hours after the Magic Seas cargo ship sank in the Red Sea following a Houthi attack, suggesting a coordinated escalation across multiple maritime fronts.
The Israeli army noted that no air raid sirens were activated, as the interception occurred outside Israeli airspace.
This marks the first known instance of a Houthi drone reaching this far into the Mediterranean.
