Islamabad/New Delhi, May 4, 2025 – In a swift retaliatory move, Pakistan has barred Indian-flagged ships from docking at its ports, following India's decision to suspend all trade with its neighbor. The development comes amid escalating tensions between the two countries after the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack, which claimed 26 lives.

India announced a complete ban on imports from Pakistan, including goods transiting through third countries, citing national security concerns. Additionally, Indian authorities have prohibited Pakistani ships from entering Indian ports, further tightening economic restrictions.

Pakistan's Ministry of Maritime Affairs issued an order late Saturday, stating that Indian flag carriers will not be allowed to visit any Pakistani port, while Pakistani vessels will also be barred from docking in India. The directive emphasized safeguarding maritime sovereignty, economic interests, and national security.

The trade suspension follows a series of punitive measures by India, including the downgrading of diplomatic ties, suspension of the Indus Waters Treaty, and closure of the Attari land border crossing.
