Lionel Messi found the net, but his efforts were not enough to prevent Inter Miami from enduring their worst defeat in Major League Soccer, falling 4-1 to Minnesota United.

Despite Messi’s second-half goal, Miami struggled defensively, conceding four goals in a match that exposed their vulnerabilities. Minnesota capitalized on defensive lapses, with Bongokuhle Hlongwane opening the scoring in the 32nd minute, followed by Anthony Markanich doubling the lead just before halftime.

Messi briefly reignited hope for Miami after the break, converting a pass from Jordi Alba with a clinical finish. However, Minnesota quickly reasserted their dominance, as an own goal by Marcelo Weigandt and a strike from Robin Lod sealed the emphatic victory.

Inter Miami coach Javier Mascherano admitted frustration over his team’s inability to counter Minnesota’s threats, acknowledging that the loss was a tough blow. With four defeats in their last five matches, Miami will need to regroup quickly to salvage their season.
