Paris, France - Paris municipality has launched a new campaign to curb cigarette butt waste, which poses a significant threat to the environment. Studies show that a single cigarette butt can contaminate up to 500 liters of water due to its 4,000 harmful chemicals.

Estimates indicate that Paris witnesses the disposal of approximately five million cigarette butts on its streets daily, leading to annual cleaning costs of around 10 million euros. To address this issue, the municipality announced 10 innovative measures, including distributing 400,000 free pocket ashtrays, installing new cigarette extinguishing devices, and imposing fines of up to 135 euros on violators.

Additionally, the city will introduce "poll survey ashtrays," an interactive tool designed to encourage smokers to dispose of their cigarette butts correctly by answering fun questions while discarding them.

A Paris municipal official stated: "We want to turn this bad habit into an opportunity to educate the public about the environmental impact of cigarette butts. We hope this initiative will help create a cleaner and more sustainable city."

This campaign is part of a broader strategy to reduce waste in the French capital amid global efforts to combat pollution caused by smoking.
