Authorities euthanized a black bear after it wandered into a New Jersey Dollar General store.

The incident was caught on video, where the 175-pound bear can be seen walking up and down the aisles of the discount store. Sean Clarkin, who captured and posted the video, lured the bear to follow him out of the store.

Witnesses to the incident said the bear was exhibiting erratic behavior, like threatening people and pets, making them believe it was sick. Clarkin told CBS News, “That was it. The bear made the turn, started heading towards us. There's people in the store. I would rather get the bear out of the store, have him follow me out."

First, authorities used rubber bullets to scare the bear into the woods, but then it came back and attacked local resident Aaron Gladding’s dog. The German Shepherd Lucky survived as people were able to get the bear off him.

Gladding said, “Bear got on top of him. My guys were outside, luckily enough. They got the bear distracted long enough to get my dog on a leash.”

Christine Flohr also watched the incident from her car.

She said, “My heart just sank. I got tears in my eyes. I'm tearing up now just thinking about it. I asked the cop, you know, 'Was that just a tranquilizer or did you have to shoot him?' He said, 'We had to shoot him.' I just started crying.”

New Jersey Fish and Wildlife officials are testing the bear’s remains for rabies.
