Abu Dhabi -- As part of an agreement signed with the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA), the United Arab Emirates has pledged a contribution of US$5 million to support the Sudan Humanitarian Fund.
The contribution aims to strengthen emergency humanitarian response efforts and address the urgent needs of affected populations across Sudan.
Agreement signed in the presence of UAE aid agency chairman
The agreement was signed between the UAE Aid Agency and OCHA in the presence of Dr Tareq Ahmed Al Ameri, Chairman of the UAE Aid Agency.
The document was signed by Rashid Salem Al Shamsi, Executive Director of Logistics Support at the UAE Aid Agency, and Sajeda Al Shawa, Head of OCHA’s Office in the UAE.
UAE reaffirms commitment to supporting Sudan
Dr Al Ameri stated that, in light of the ongoing conflict in Sudan, the UAE continues its urgent humanitarian response and stands in solidarity with those affected by the devastating civil war. He reaffirmed the UAE’s commitment to supporting international efforts aimed at meeting pressing humanitarian needs and saving lives in conflict-affected areas.
Worsening humanitarian situation requires urgent action
Dr Al Ameri noted that the deteriorating humanitarian situation in Sudan, including large-scale displacement to neighbouring countries such as Chad, South Sudan, Uganda, and Ethiopia, calls for intensified collective humanitarian efforts and swift responses to support early recovery, stability, and the mitigation of severe challenges faced by civilians.
OCHA expresses appreciation for UAE support
Sajeda Al Shawa expressed her sincere appreciation to the UAE for its generous US$5 million contribution to the Sudan Humanitarian Fund. She said the funding would strengthen UN-led efforts through OCHA and its partners to reach vulnerable communities and ensure the timely delivery of life-saving assistance in line with humanitarian principles. She added that the contribution reflects the UAE’s steadfast commitment to solidarity, humanitarian leadership, and ensuring aid reaches those most in need.
Longstanding UAE humanitarian support for Sudan
The UAE continues to provide sustained humanitarian assistance to Sudan as part of its long-term commitment to addressing the ongoing crisis. Between 2015 and 2025, the UAE provided US$4.24 billion in assistance to Sudan. Since the outbreak of the current crisis between 2023 and 2025, the UAE has allocated US$784 million in humanitarian aid.
Call for collective action and humanitarian ceasefire
The UAE reaffirmed the importance of collective action with regional and international partners and stressed the need for a humanitarian ceasefire to protect civilians and facilitate the safe and unhindered delivery of humanitarian assistance, contributing to stability and peace for the Sudanese people.
