The Arab League has called on European countries to recognise the State of Palestine with-in the pre-1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital.   The League praised the European humanitarian and economic support for the Palestinian people through the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA). Arab League Secretary-General Ahmed Abul-Gheit said during the 5th Arab-European ministerial meeting in Brussels that the Arab League is keen to strengthen cooperation with the EU to serve Arab interests and priorities. In 2014 Sweden became the first western EU member to officially recognised the State of Palestine. It followed in the footsteps of seven EU member states which had already recognised a Palestinian state – Bulgaria, Cyprus, Slovakia, Hungary, Malta, Poland and Romania. Non-EU member Iceland had also done so. AFP.
