A group of Lebanese citizens intercepted a UNIFIL patrol today, Saturday, as it was heading towards Wadi Al-Slouqi in southern Lebanon. The protest was triggered by the patrol’s lack of accompaniment from the Lebanese Army.

According to the National News Agency (NNA), young men from the town of Srifa blocked the patrol on the main road without any incidents being recorded. A Lebanese Army unit later intervened to de-escalate the situation and restore normalcy.

The incident comes amid growing tensions in the region. A previous UNIFIL patrol had entered Wadi Al-Slouqi without Lebanese Army escort, causing frustration among local residents.

UNIFIL continues its peacekeeping mission in southern Lebanon in accordance with United Nations resolutions, while facing security challenges that necessitate ongoing coordination with local authorities to ensure safe operations in the field.
