Egyptian medical sources reported on Monday the discovery of ten bodies washed up on the seashore in Matrouh Governorate, located in the northwestern part of the country.
According to the sources, speaking to the German Press Agency (DPA), the victims included one Libyan and one Sudanese national, while the remaining eight bodies were identified as Egyptian citizens from the Assiut Governorate.
All the bodies were transferred to Matrouh General Hospital and placed under the custody of the Public Prosecution, which has initiated an investigation to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident and to accurately identify the victims.
Sources confirmed that the deceased had been aboard a boat carrying migrants that departed from a coastal area in eastern Libya, specifically between the towns of Musaid and Derna—regions known for human smuggling activity.
Medical authorities have notified the security forces, which have formed investigative teams in coordination with the Health Directorate to establish the causes of death.
