Aden — The governments of the United Kingdom and Greece have announced a joint agreement to assist Yemen in protecting its territorial waters and ensuring the safety of international navigation routes.
The accord, revealed following high-level diplomatic consultations, underscores the growing concern over maritime security in the Red Sea and Gulf of Aden.
Officials stated that the cooperation will focus on enhancing Yemen’s naval capabilities, providing technical expertise, and supporting monitoring operations to counter threats posed by smuggling networks and militant groups.
Both London and Athens emphasized that securing Yemen’s waters is vital not only for regional stability but also for safeguarding global trade passing through one of the world’s busiest maritime corridors.
The agreement reflects a broader European commitment to strengthening maritime security in conflict zones, while also signaling solidarity with Yemen’s internationally recognized government in its efforts to protect sovereignty and maintain safe shipping lanes.
