Khartoum — The Al-Baraa Battalion, an Islamist militia linked to the Muslim Brotherhood, has formally confirmed its affiliation with the Sudanese Armed Forces, according to recent reports.

The announcement highlights the battalion’s active role in supporting the army during the war against the Rapid Support Forces (RSF).

Sources note that the battalion, also known as Al-Baraa ibn Malik Battalion, has been operating as part of the Popular Defence Forces and reserve units under Sudan’s Ministry of Defense.

Its fighters have participated in key battles across Khartoum, Kordofan, and other regions since the outbreak of the conflict in 2023.

Analysts say the confirmation of ties reflects the broader mobilization of Islamist militias alongside the Sudanese army, raising concerns among regional governments wary of the Brotherhood’s influence.

The battalion’s leadership and ideological roots have long been associated with Islamist movements, fueling speculation about its organizational links to the Brotherhood.
