Norway -- 'I am pleased to be in Sudan and grateful for the frank and substantive discussions I have held with senior officials and with humanitarian partners', said State Secretary Andreas Motzfeldt Kravik.

'My meeting with H.E. General Abdul Fattah al-Burhan, Chairman of the Sovereign Council, which has just concluded, was both constructive and candid. We addressed a wide range of issues of shared concern. I appreciate that he took the time to meet with me, and I value the positive remarks he conveyed about Norway

'I reaffirmed Norway’s unwavering commitment to the people of Sudan

'In this and my other meetings with Sudanese officials, I underscored the urgent need to re-establish a political process and to secure an immediate humanitarian truce. Norway wants to see this war end as swiftly as possible. The Sudanese people have endured unimaginable suffering. This is, today, the world’s largest humanitarian crisis.

'I have taken note of the heightened rhetoric surrounding a supposed new humanitarian truce document, reportedly proposed by the United States. This is unfortunate and rooted in a misunderstanding. I have personally engaged with the U.S. Senior Advisor, Masad Boulos, to clarify the matter. Let me state unequivocally: there is no new proposal for a humanitarian truce. The only proposal remains the one tabled several weeks ago. Suggestions to the contrary are without foundation. We urge all parties to continue engaging on the basis of that proposal. It is also critical that a humanitarian truce is followed by an inclusive political process towards a unified and stable Sudan.

'I also wish to stress that a truce is not synonymous with a ceasefire or a political agreement. Its purpose—especially in this context—is to bring hostilities to a temporary halt and to enable the delivery of desperately needed humanitarian assistance. I also want to reiterate the importance of unfettered humanitarian access to all parts of the country. In this regard, I am encouraged that the Adre border crossing remains open', said Kravik.
