Libya declares three days of mourning after plane crash in Türkiye

Tripoli -- The Tripoli based Government of National Accord has declared three days of national mourning following the death of Libya's Chief of General Staff, Mohammed al-Haddad, in a plane crash in Türkiye, Trend reports.

Mourning will be observed across the country.

The aircraft was carrying Colonel General Mohammed Ali Ahmed Al-Haddad, Chief of the General Staff of the Libyan Armed Forces, along with his five-member delegation. The crew included two pilots and one flight attendant.

Flights at Ankara’s Esenboğa Airport were temporarily suspended following the incident.

The Ankara General Prosecutor's Office has opened an investigation into the crash of a Falcon 50 aircraft that departed from Esenboğa Airport, carrying passengers including the Chief of the General Staff of the Libyan Armed Forces, Colonel General Mohammed Ali Ahmed Al-Haddad, Trend reports.

The statement was made by Turkish Minister of Justice Yilmaz Tunc.
