Khartoum -- At least 31 civilians were killed and injured in an airstrike carried out by Sudanese army aircraft targeting Christian communities celebrating Christmas in the Kordofan region of western Sudan.
Since Thursday, the Sudanese army has continued a series of attacks in Darfur and Kordofan, leaving 47 people dead and hundreds wounded, according to local reports.
In a statement, the “Ta’sis” coalition condemned what it described as the systematic targeting of civilians during Christmas festivities, stressing that such actions demonstrate to the world that Sudan is facing organized terrorism and extremist groups.
The coalition added that for three decades it has warned of the dangers these groups pose to the country’s social fabric and to the rights of Sudanese people to freedom of religion and belief.
