Paris- A powerful earthquake measuring 7.7 on the Richter scale struck central Myanmar earlier today, shaking large parts of Southeast Asia and resulting in significant human and material losses across multiple countries, including Thailand and China.

According to geological agencies, the epicenter was located 16 kilometers northwest of Sagaing, Myanmar, at a shallow depth of 10 kilometers, intensifying the destructive impact on residential areas and infrastructure.

Heavy Impact in Myanmar

The capital city Naypyidaw and several other urban areas in Myanmar experienced collapsed buildings, cracked roads, and widespread panic. Reports from local hospitals indicate a high number of casualties, with emergency rooms overwhelmed by injured civilians.

Chaos in Bangkok

In Bangkok, the capital of Thailand, strong tremors were felt throughout the city, prompting the evacuation of high-rise buildings. A 30-story tower under construction partially collapsed, leaving over 40 workers trapped beneath the rubble, according to local officials.

Tremors Felt in China

The earthquake’s tremors were also felt in southwestern China, particularly in Yunnan Province, although no immediate damage or injuries were reported.

State of Emergency Declared

Authorities in Myanmar declared a state of emergency in six regions, appealing for urgent international humanitarian aid. Meanwhile, the Thai government held an emergency cabinet meeting led by Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra to coordinate disaster response efforts.

Seismologists have warned of potential aftershocks in the coming hours and days, urging residents in affected regions to remain alert and stay connected with local emergency services.
