Brazilian journalist Lenildo Frazao, who was filming a report on conditions on the river with the HTTV crew, also arrived at the site of her last sighting.

During a live broadcast, Frazao waded chest-deep into the river to show viewers the dangers posed by the strong current and irregular depth, KosovaPress reports.

"I think there's something down there. I'm not going any further. I'm scared. It felt like a hand. Could it be that? I don't know, it could be a fish," the journalist said.

Footage of the moment quickly went viral on social media, with many viewers commenting that the video was extremely disturbing.

A day later, on June 30, divers found the body of a woman in the exact spot where Frazao had been. An autopsy showed that the girl had drowned and that there were no signs of physical violence on the body.
Authorities are still unable to confirm for sure whether the journalist actually stepped on her body while reporting, but the circumstances have shocked the public.

"People were shocked and that moment was very difficult for me too. It all happened in a second," Frazao later told local media.

The 13-year-old girl disappeared in late June while swimming with friends in the Mearim River in the city of Bacabalu in northeastern Brazil. The search for the girl lasted for days, and firefighters and divers were also involved in the search.
