Damascus– The Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) on Tuesday announced its "full commitment" to a ceasefire that was declared minutes prior by the Syrian defense ministry, amid escalating tensions between the Kurdish-led force and Damascus-affiliated factions.

The ceasefire is set to halt hostilities between the two sides for four days after entering into effect on Tuesday evening at 8:00 pm, local time, while the two sides hash out the details of an agreement regarding the military and civilian integration of Hasakah into the Syrian state institutions, the defense ministry said.

The Kurdish-led force announced its "full commitment" to the truce moments after its announcement, saying that they will not initiate any military action unless attacked, reaffirming its "readiness" to proceed with the implementation of a January 18 agreement that was announced by Syrian interim President Ahmed al-Sharaa.

The Syrian Presidency's statement said that in the event of an agreement, the Syrian state forces will stay on the outskirts of Hasakah and Qamishli, and not enter the city centers of the two cities, as well as Syria's Kurdish villages.

The Syrian Presidency also said that the posts of Governor of Hasakah and Deputy Minister of Defense will be given to candidates chosen by SDF Commander Mazloum Abdi.

The announcements aim to put an end to recent advancements made by the Syrian government on positions held by the SDF, including several sensitive sites where members and affiliates of the Islamic State (ISIS) are held, such as Hasakah's notorious al-Hol camp, which holds tens of thousands of ISIS-affiliates.

Sharaa announced an agreement between both sides on Sunday, that included an immediate ceasefire on "all fronts," advances by thr Syrian transitional government's forces continued however, reaching new heights after a Monday meeting between Abdi and Sharaa yielded no results, with a Rojava official telling AFP that Damascus demands a complete surrender.
