Tripoli – The Libyan capital, Tripoli, witnessed rising security tensions late Monday and into Tuesday morning, marked by intermittent gunfire and intensified military movements across several districts, raising concerns over a potential outbreak of armed clashes.

Local sources reported hearing medium and light weapon fire in the Sidra area, south of the capital, while tanks were seen leaving the Tikbali military camp heading toward Qasr Bin Ghashir. Additional troop movements were observed in other parts of Tripoli and nearby cities such as Zliten, Khoms, and Tarhuna.

The United Nations Support Mission in Libya expressed “deep concern” over the military escalation, warning that continued mobilization could lead to widespread conflict. The mission urged all parties to immediately de-escalate and engage in dialogue under the supervision of the Presidential Council to safeguard civilian lives and infrastructure.

Meanwhile, the Government of National Unity, led by Abdul Hamid Dbeibeh, cautioned against the consequences of sliding into renewed conflict, stressing that any new confrontation would not only threaten Tripoli’s security but could also spread to other regions of the country.

These developments come amid a stalled political process and growing fears that the fragile calm in the capital over recent months may be unraveling.
