"Following the sirens that sounded a short while ago in the areas of Lakhish and Ashdod, two projectiles were launched from the northern Gaza Strip," the Israeli military said.

It added that Israel's air force brought down one, while the second fell in an open area, with no casualties reported.

No group immediately claimed responsibility for the launches, which have become rare amid the Israeli military's intense air and ground assault on Gaza City in recent weeks.

Meanwhile, the Israeli army announced on Sunday that 10 soldiers were lightly injured when their military vehicle overturned during operations in northern Gaza.

The soldiers were taken to a hospital in Israel for treatment.

On Saturday, Israel’s Army Radio said a soldier from the 401st Brigade was moderately wounded in a sniper attack in Gaza City’s Sheikh Radwan neighbourhood.

In recent days, the Israeli military has deployed thousands of infantry, armoured, and engineering troops into Gaza City as part of an operation aimed at intensifying its offensive and reasserting control over the territory.

Since 7 October 2023, Israel’s genocidal war on Gaza has killed 65,208 Palestinians and wounded 166,271 others, most of them women and children.

The Israeli blockade on food, water, and medicine has resulted in famine that has claimed 442 lives, including 147 children, according to Palestinian health authorities.
