Aden, March 12, 2025 -- UN Special Envoy for Yemen, Hans Grundberg, has emphasized the urgent need for regional and international coordination to create conditions for lasting peace in Yemen. During his recent visit to Riyadh, Grundberg highlighted the importance of concerted efforts to reduce tensions and support dialogue among conflicting parties.

Regional Coordination

Grundberg underscored the necessity of regional and international cooperation to pave the way for a durable political solution in Yemen. He called on global stakeholders to support dialogue and efforts aimed at achieving peace.

Humanitarian Concerns

The Special Envoy also demanded the immediate and unconditional release of UN staff, civil society activists, NGO workers, and diplomatic personnel detained by the Houthi group in the capital, Sanaa.

Ongoing Conflict

Yemen has remained in a fragile stalemate since October 2022, when a UN-mediated truce between the Saudi-backed government and the Houthi group expired. Efforts to renew or expand the ceasefire have repeatedly collapsed.

Grundberg's remarks come at a time when the fear of a return to full-scale conflict in Yemen is palpable. The international community is urged to remain actively engaged in supporting peace efforts and addressing the humanitarian crisis in the war-torn nation.
