Aden — Three people were injured in Yemen’s southern city of Aden after an unexploded munition detonated at a local garbage dump, local sources reported on Sunday.

According to eyewitnesses, an 18-year-old youth discovered the suspicious device while scavenging through waste in a landfill. He reportedly carried the object to two elderly men, both in their sixties, in an attempt to identify it.

The munition accidentally slipped from his hands and exploded, injuring all three individuals.

Medical sources confirmed that the victims sustained varying degrees of injuries and were transferred to a nearby hospital for treatment. Authorities have not yet released further details on their condition.

The incident highlights the ongoing danger posed by unexploded ordnance in Yemen, where years of conflict have left behind a deadly legacy of landmines and abandoned munitions. Humanitarian organizations have repeatedly called for increased efforts to clear contaminated areas and raise public awareness about the risks.

Local officials urged residents to avoid handling unidentified objects and to report any suspicious items to the relevant authorities.
