Abu Dhabi -- January 17 is observed across the UAE as the Day of Resolve, a national occasion that reflects the country’s resilience, unity, and readiness in the face of security threats.

The commemoration recalls the 2022 attack on Abu Dhabi, when the Houthi militia targeted civilian locations, including fuel tankers and areas near Abu Dhabi International Airport, resulting in the deaths of three civilians and injuries to others. Rather than weakening the nation, the incident became a moment of renewed awareness and rebuilding, reinforcing the UAE’s ability to protect its security and stability.

Observed annually, the Day of Resolve highlights the country’s enduring commitment to preparedness, patience, and strength. It reflects the leadership’s belief that true power lies not only in overcoming crises but also in anticipating challenges and preparing for them.
Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan underscored this approach, stating that while the UAE stands for peace, compassion, and goodwill, it remains firm and determined in defending its security. This balance continues to guide the nation’s pursuit of peace alongside vigilance and defence.

This year marks the fourth anniversary of the Day of Resolve, commemorated across all emirates through media coverage, awareness initiatives, and national events that emphasize solidarity, loyalty, and resilience. State institutions also use the occasion to demonstrate their readiness to safeguard citizens and residents through continued investment in advanced defence technologies and strong regional partnerships.

National observances include a synchronized aerial display by the UAE Armed Forces and the Knights of the Emirates over major landmarks nationwide. The Day of Resolve campaign logo is projected onto iconic sites such as Burj Khalifa, ADNOC Tower, and Jebel Jais, symbolising that resilience and resolve are shared national values.
