Riyadh -- The United States Embassy in Yemen has officially welcomed the appointment of Dr. Shaea Mohsen Al-Zindani as the country’s new Prime Minister.

In a statement released on Saturday, the Embassy congratulated Dr. Al-Zindani on earning the confidence of the Presidential Leadership Council, emphasizing Washington’s full support for his efforts to improve governance, strengthen state institutions, and meet the aspirations of the Yemeni people for stability and development.

The appointment follows Presidential Leadership Council Decision No. 17 of 2026, which tasked Al-Zindani—formerly Yemen’s Minister of Foreign Affairs—with forming a new government to succeed Salem bin Buraik.

The Embassy’s message was widely interpreted as a sign of international backing for Yemen’s political transition, with observers noting that U.S. support could bolster diplomatic efforts and humanitarian initiatives in the country.

Local and international reactions have been largely positive, with many viewing the move as an opportunity to reinforce state legitimacy and accelerate reforms. Analysts suggest that Al-Zindani’s leadership will be tested by Yemen’s ongoing economic challenges and the need to unify diverse political factions under a functioning government.
