A convoy carrying essential food and relief supplies departed from Damascus today en route to the southern city of Sweida, responding to the escalating humanitarian needs faced by communities across the region.

Organized by a coalition of local NGOs in coordination with international partners, the aid convoy includes over 20 trucks loaded with rice, flour, canned goods, baby formula, and medical supplies. The initiative comes amid rising concerns over food insecurity and limited access to healthcare, exacerbated by recent economic strains and continued instability.

Representatives from the Syrian Arab Red Crescent confirmed the convoy’s route has been secured in coordination with local authorities, ensuring safe passage through rural areas where infrastructure remains fragile.

“This aid is vital. Thousands of families in Sweida are struggling, and with winter approaching, their situation will only become more difficult,” said Laila Nasser, a field coordinator working with one of the humanitarian organizations involved.

The convoy is expected to reach Sweida by Friday morning, where distribution centers have been set up in schools and public halls to ensure equitable access to supplies.

Local residents and community leaders have expressed gratitude for the initiative but emphasized the need for more sustained support in the face of ongoing challenges.
