Doha will host an emergency Arab-Islamic summit on Monday, convened in response to last week’s unprecedented Israeli strike targeting Hamas leaders in Qatar.

The deadly attack -- carried out by one US ally on the territory of another -- sparked a wave of criticism, including a rebuke from President Donald Trump.

Monday’s emergency gathering will serve as a pointed show of unity among Gulf countries and seek to pile more pressure on Israel, which is already facing mounting calls to bring an end to the war and humanitarian crisis in Gaza.

The attendees are expected to discuss a draft resolution that resulted from a preparatory ministerial meeting on Sunday ahead of the summit.

The draft said that Israel’s attack in Doha last week and its other actions threaten efforts to normalize ties with Arab nations.

The Israeli attack on Qatar “and the continuation of Israel’s hostile acts including genocide, ethnic cleansing, starvation, siege, and colonizing activities and expansion policies threaten prospects of peace and coexistence in the region and threaten everything that has been achieved on the path of normalizing ties with Israel including current agreements and future ones,” the draft resolution said.

Speaking during the ministerial meeting on Sunday, Qatar’s prime minister urged the international community to reject “double standards” and hold Israel accountable for its actions.

“The time has come for the international community to stop using double standards and to punish Israel for all the crimes it has committed,” Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani told the meeting, adding Israel’s “war of extermination” in Gaza would not succeed.

“What is encouraging Israel to continue... is the silence, the inability of the international community to hold it accountable.”

Among the leaders expected at Monday’s summit are Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian, Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani and Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan.

Palestinian president Mahmoud Abbas arrived in Doha on Sunday.
