Baghdad — The Iraqi government announced the dismissal of several officials following controversy over the inclusion of Lebanon’s Hezbollah and Yemen’s Houthi movement on the country’s list of terrorist organizations. The decision was reported Tuesday by the Iraqi News Agency (INA).
In a statement, the Council of Ministers said it had approved the recommendations of a special investigative committee regarding the publication in the Iraqi Gazette (Issue No. 4848, dated November 17, 2025).
The publication contained Resolution No. 61 (2025) of the Committee for Freezing Terrorist Funds, which formally listed Hezbollah and the Houthis among designated terrorist groups.
The Council emphasized that the dismissals were part of accountability measures to address procedural and political sensitivities surrounding the decision.
The move highlights the government’s effort to balance domestic pressures with international obligations in counterterrorism policy.
