Cairo — The First Circuit of Egypt’s Supreme State Security Criminal Court issued heavy sentences against five businessmen affiliated with the Muslim Brotherhood in case No. 578 of 2025, convicting them of financing terrorism.
The court sentenced Ashraf Saleh, Ahmed Labib, and Ismail Riyad to 15 years of rigorous imprisonment, while Wael Mohammed and Osama Hassan Arabi received life sentences.
In addition, the ruling ordered the inclusion of the convicted individuals, along with the Muslim Brotherhood organization, on Egypt’s lists of terrorist entities and individuals. The defendants will also be placed under police surveillance for five years following the completion of their sentences.
According to the prosecution, the defendants were charged with assuming and joining leadership roles in a terrorist group established in violation of the law. The group aimed to obstruct constitutional and legal provisions, prevent state institutions and authorities from carrying out their duties, infringe on citizens’ personal freedoms and public rights, and undermine national unity and social peace.
Investigations revealed that the organization sought to carry out hostile operations against members of the armed forces, police, and their facilities, as well as public institutions. It was also accused of spreading false news and rumors to disrupt public order and endanger community safety, using terrorism as a means to achieve its objectives.
The prosecution further charged the defendants with knowingly joining the terrorist group and supporting its goals and methods, as detailed in the investigation records.
