George Foreman, the legendary heavyweight boxer, passed away on Friday, March 21, at the age of 76 in Houston, Texas. American media reported his death, and his family expressed deep sorrow, describing him as a devoted preacher, loving husband, caring father, and proud grandfather.

His legacy in the world of boxing, combined with his commitment to his faith and family, leaves behind an indelible mark on those who knew him.

Known as “Big George,” Foreman was one of the most iconic figures in boxing history. He won a gold medal in heavyweight boxing at the 1968 Mexico City Olympics and claimed the world heavyweight championship in 1973 by knocking out then-undefeated champion Joe Frazier.

One of his most famous moments came in the 1974 fight against Muhammad Ali, dubbed the “Rumble in the Jungle,” where Foreman was defeated in the eighth round, marking his first loss in the sport.

However, Foreman’s career wasn’t limited to just his iconic battles. In 1994, at 45 years old, he made history by regaining the heavyweight title by defeating Michael Moorer, making him the oldest champion in boxing history.

Throughout his career, he fought 81 times, securing 76 victories, 68 by knockout, and only five losses. After retiring from boxing in 1977, Foreman devoted his life to religious activities, becoming a preacher in his local Texas church.

His death, the cause of which remains undisclosed, has sparked reactions from athletes, entertainers, and politicians alike. Houston Mayor John Whitmire paid tribute, stating, “George achieved global success from the poor streets and never forgot his roots.

Houston is proud to have had him.” ESPN journalist Jeremy Schaap also praised Foreman, calling him “the greatest comeback in sports history.”

Foreman, who was married five times, had 12 children, five of whom were named George Edward Foreman, ensuring they would always share a common bond. Until the end of his life, he remained active in his religious and family activities in Houston and his family farm in Marshall, Texas. His passing marks the end of an era for boxing fans and the broader sports community.
