The roof of the nightclub collapsed around 1 a.m., when hundreds of visitors were inside.

Rescue services are actively working at the scene, continuing the search for possible survivors among the rubble. According to preliminary estimates, there were between 500 and 1,000 people in the nightclub at the time of the collapse. Officials say that while there is still hope for rescue, all efforts are focused on helping the victims.

Among the dead are well-known figures, including 51-year-old baseball player Octavio Dotel, who played in Major League Baseball. His death was confirmed by the Dominican Republic's professional league. Also among the victims of the accident was the governor of Monte Cristi, Nelsi Cruz, who died in hospital from her injuries. Cruz was reportedly the first to inform President Luis Abinader of the tragedy.

Local authorities have called on citizens to actively help, including donating blood for the victims. Rescue operations are ongoing, and rescuers continue to try to extract possible survivors from under the rubble.
