Egyptian actor and comedian Soliman Eid passed away on Friday morning at the age of 63, following a sudden medical emergency that required hospitalisation.

Born on 17 October 1961, Eid graduated from the High Institute of Theatrical Arts acting department and took on numerous supporting roles in theatre, films, and TV series.

Praised for his light-hearted humour and strong presence, even in more minor roles, Eid became increasingly prominent, starring in over 300 works, including films and TV series that became staples of Egyptian comedy.

Eid's breakout role as a comedian came in 1992, when he starred alongside Adel Emam in Terrorism and Kebab. Following that film, Eid became one of the most sought-after comedians in Egypt.

He played memorable roles in successful films, including Sherif Arafa's Toyour Al-Zalam (Birds of Darkness) (1995), again opposite Adel Emam, and Hammam in Amsterdam (1999) opposite Mohamed Heneidy.

Despite a successful career in film and TV drama, Eid, who never parted ways with the theatre throughout his life, had memorable roles in plays such as Parliament of Women (1983), Al-Zaeem (1993), Afroto (1999), Teatro Masr (2013), Badia's Yard (2016), and Bank Robbers (2022), among others.

Over the years, he amassed a portfolio of more than 120 films, 150 TV series, and 40 theatre plays.

His most recent appearances include roles in several 2025 Ramadan TV series, including Master of the People (Saeed El-Nass), The Station Cafe (Qahwet Al-Mahatta), Many Happy Returns (Obal Andoko), and Closed for Maintenance, a Kuwaiti production.

His most recent film, Siko Siko, was released in Egyptian cinemas at the end of March. In it, he stars alongside Essam Omar, Taha Desouky, and Khaled El-Sawy.

More recently, Eid endeared himself to younger audiences through his playful and funny videos on social media, especially on TikTok, where his content gained widespread attention.

Eid was loved by audiences and colleagues, who expressed their sorrow on social media. Actors Mohamed Ramadan, Hussein Fahmy, and Mostafa Shaaban extolled Eid's professionalism, unique comedy skills, kindness, and respect to those around him.
