A tragic shooting incident shook the Egyptian city of Alexandria today, as a 35-year-old nuclear chemistry graduate was killed in broad daylight in the Karmouz district, a densely populated area in the city’s western center.
According to preliminary police reports, the victim was walking alone near the new bus station when he was ambushed by an unidentified gunman, who fired multiple rounds at close range. Eyewitnesses said the assailant emptied an entire magazine, striking the victim with approximately 13 bullets before fleeing the scene.
Emergency responders and officers from the Karmouz Police Department arrived shortly after the attack, but the victim was pronounced dead at the scene. He was reportedly employed at a nearby car dealership and had recently graduated with a degree in nuclear chemical engineering.
The incident has sparked widespread outrage across Egyptian social media, with many users demanding swift justice and questioning the motives behind the targeted killing. Security forces launched an immediate investigation, and by Thursday afternoon, a suspect had been arrested by the Criminal Investigation Department.
“This was a calculated and brutal act,” said a local official. “We are working to uncover the full circumstances and ensure accountability.”
The motive remains unclear, but authorities are exploring possible personal or professional links between the victim and the assailant. The case has reignited concerns over public safety and gun violence in urban areas, particularly in Alexandria, which has witnessed a rise in violent incidents in recent months.
The victim’s identity has not been officially released, pending notification of his family. Investigators continue to gather evidence and interview witnesses as part of the ongoing probe.
