Mocha – Local media sources reported that 51 Yemeni fishermen returned today to Mocha port on Yemen’s western coast after being released by Eritrean authorities following varying periods of detention.
A boat arriving from Eritrean waters docked at the Mocha fish landing center carrying the fishermen, who had been detained while practicing fishing in the Red Sea. The sources did not specify the length of their detention.
The fishermen said they endured harsh conditions during their captivity, including forced labor and difficult living circumstances, according to their accounts.
Fishermen and local officials have previously spoken of repeated incidents in the Red Sea involving the detention of Yemeni fishermen, often accompanied by the confiscation of boats and fishing equipment
