Sana'a - Six Yemenis were killed on Monday following the collapse of a gold mine in Hajjah Governorate, located in northwestern Yemen.

According to a statement issued by the Houthi-controlled Hajjah Police Department, “six individuals died and a seventh was injured due to the collapse of an illegally established gold mine in the Al-Obeisa area of Kushar District.”

The statement added that the victims had been previously detained a few days earlier for engaging in unauthorized gold excavation. They were released after signing written pledges not to repeat the activity.

Upon receiving the report of the incident, security forces, along with forensic and investigative teams, were dispatched to the site. Authorities examined the scene, transported the bodies to a hospital, and initiated the necessary legal procedures.

Most of Hajjah Governorate has been under Houthi control for the past ten years and shares a land border with Saudi Arabia.
