"MSF Reports New Surge in Acute Watery Diarrhea Cases Across Yemen"

Aden, Yemen – Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) has reported a new surge in acute watery diarrhea cases across multiple regions in Yemen, raising alarms over the country’s fragile public health system.

The outbreak has been particularly severe in Hadramout, Taiz, and Al Hudaydah, where overcrowded displacement camps and poor sanitation have accelerated the spread of waterborne diseases.

MSF medical teams are treating dozens of patients daily, many of them children under five suffering from dehydration and related complications. The organization warned that the situation could escalate into a full-scale epidemic if urgent action is not taken to restore clean water access and reopen shuttered treatment centers.

Yemen continues to bear the highest global burden of cholera, with recurring outbreaks exacerbated by conflict, displacement, and underfunded health infrastructure. MSF has called on international donors and humanitarian agencies to scale up support for water, sanitation, and healthcare services to prevent further loss of life.
