Israeli attack on Doha will not deter Qatar from mediating to end Gaza war: PM

Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Than, the Qatari premier and foreign minister, vowed that the Israeli attack on his country last week would not deter it from continuing to work with Egypt and the US to end the Israeli war on Gaza.

"The attack was not just on a location but an assault on the principle of mediation itself ... Israel’s actions will not deter us from continuing our efforts with Egypt and the United States to stop the war," stressed the Qatari PM.

Al Thani made these statements following a meeting of foreign ministers in Doha to discuss coordinated responses ahead of an emergency summit of heads of state in the Qatari capital on Monday.

The Arab and Islamic summit in the Qatari capital comes amid growing regional and international condemnation of the Tuesday Israeli strike that targeted the top Hamas Gaza ceasefire negotiators in Doha.

"The Israeli strike on Doha can only be described as state terrorism ... the reckless and treacherous Israeli aggression occurred while Qatar was hosting negotiations on Gaza," said Al Thani.

"Israel’s continued aggression is encouraged by the international community’s failure to hold it accountable ... There must be no silence or leniency toward this barbaric attack," added the Qatari PM.

"The region will not enjoy security and peace without the Palestinian people obtaining their legitimate rights," he stressed.

In tandem, The Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) and the Arab League (AL) also issued statements after the ministerial closed-door meeting.

OIC Secretary-General Hussein Ibrahim Taha stated: "We express our solidarity with the State of Qatar following the criminal Israeli transgression ... decisive measures must be taken against Israel due to its aggression against Qatar."

Ahmed Aboul Gheit, Secretary-General of the Arab League, stated: "The Israeli aggression on Qatar combined cowardice, treachery, and recklessness."

"The shameful international silence and neglect of [Israeli] occupation crimes encourages further transgressions."

"We must all focus on stopping the Israeli war machine and its shameful crimes," added Aboul Gheit.
