Aden – Yemeni government forces have successfully thwarted a terrorist plot allegedly linked to the Houthi militia, aimed at assassinating senior security and military officials in the interim capital, Aden.
According to a statement from the Presidential Leadership Council, the plot was uncovered following weeks of surveillance and intelligence operations. The cell, reportedly operating under direct coordination with Houthi leadership in Sana’a, had planned to carry out targeted attacks against high-ranking officers in Aden’s security and military apparatus.
Security sources confirmed that the operation led to the arrest of several suspects and the seizure of weapons, surveillance equipment, and encrypted communications. The intended targets included commanders involved in counterterrorism and stabilization efforts in southern Yemen.
Dr. Rashad Al-Alimi, Chairman of the Presidential Leadership Council, described the plot as a “desperate attempt to destabilize liberated areas and undermine the state’s ability to protect its institutions.” He warned that such operations reflect the Houthis’ continued efforts to export violence beyond their areas of control.
The thwarted attack comes amid heightened tensions and fragile peace negotiations. Yemeni officials have called on the international community to condemn the targeting of security personnel and support efforts to dismantle terrorist networks operating across the country.
No official response has been issued by the Houthi group. However, the incident has raised concerns over the safety of government officials and the broader implications for Yemen’s security landscape.
