Taiz — Local military sources confirmed that Houthi militias launched six artillery shells targeting army positions along the Air Defense Front in Taiz governorate, late Tuesday.
The bombardment also struck residential neighborhoods surrounding the front line, raising concerns about civilian safety in one of Yemen’s most densely populated cities.
Witnesses reported that the shelling caused damage to homes and infrastructure, forcing families to flee the area in panic.
While no immediate casualty figures were released, humanitarian groups warned that the attack underscores the persistent threat to civilians living near active frontlines.
The Air Defense Front has long been a flashpoint in Taiz, where government forces and Houthi fighters continue to clash over strategic highlands and access routes.
Local officials condemned the attack, describing it as a violation of international humanitarian law and urging the international community to intensify efforts to protect civilians in Taiz.
They stressed that indiscriminate shelling of residential areas risks deepening the humanitarian crisis in Yemen, where millions already face displacement, food insecurity, and lack of basic services.
