Aden — The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) has announced that it facilitated the return of nearly 1,000 Somali refugees from Yemen to their home country during the current year.
According to UNHCR, the voluntary repatriation program was carried out in close coordination with Somali and Yemeni authorities, as well as international partners, to ensure safe passage and reintegration support for returnees. The initiative reflects ongoing efforts to address the humanitarian needs of Somali refugees stranded in Yemen amid the country’s prolonged conflict and economic crisis.
The agency stressed that while the returns mark a positive step, thousands of Somali refugees remain in Yemen under difficult living conditions, requiring continued protection and assistance. UNHCR reiterated its commitment to supporting durable solutions and called for greater international backing to meet the needs of displaced populations.
