New York -- Addressing the UN Security Council today, Secretary-General António Guterres urged Yemeni parties to exercise restraint and avoid unilateral measures that could spark renewed escalation.
He warned that recent developments in eastern governorates risk deepening divisions, stressing that the only path forward is a return to negotiations.
Guterres also called for the immediate release of UN staff detained in Sana’a, warning that such actions undermine trust and obstruct peace efforts. He emphasized that the international community must intensify humanitarian and political support to alleviate the suffering of the Yemeni people, who have endured years of conflict.
