Muscat — The warring parties in Yemen announced today that they have reached a new agreement on the release of prisoners and detainees, following 11 days of negotiations in Oman under the auspices of the Supervisory Committee tasked with implementing the prisoner exchange accord.
According to the statement, the deal stipulates the release of 1,700 Houthi fighters in exchange for 1,200 detainees from the opposing side, including 7 Saudi nationals and 23 Sudanese soldiers.
The agreement marks a significant step in ongoing efforts to ease humanitarian suffering and build confidence between the Yemeni government and Houthi militias, amid international calls for broader peace initiatives to end the protracted conflict.
