Muscat — The UN Special Envoy to Yemen, Hans Grundberg, reiterated on Tuesday the United Nations’ commitment to engaging with all parties to support a return to an inclusive political process in Yemen, aimed at achieving sustainable solutions that meet the needs of Yemenis while addressing regional concerns.

Grundberg’s remarks came during meetings in Muscat with senior Omani officials, where he discussed the latest developments in Yemen and the broader regional context, expressing appreciation for Oman’s role in supporting UN-led peace efforts.

He also met with Mohammed Abdulsalam, the chief negotiator of the Houthi delegation, to explore ways of advancing political dialogue.

Grundberg emphasized the importance of maintaining momentum in efforts to release detainees held in connection with the conflict, building on the outcomes of a meeting held in Muscat in December 2025.

In a related context, Grundberg called for the immediate and unconditional release of UN staff detained by the Houthis, underscoring the need to respect the safety and security of UN personnel. The discussions also involved UN official Muin Shreim, who oversees the detention file.
