Doha — Three diplomats told Reuters that certain individuals have been instructed to leave the Al Udeid Air Base, the largest U.S. military installation in the Middle East, by Wednesday evening. The U.S. Embassy in Doha had no immediate comment.

Al Udeid hosts around 10,000 troops. Prior to U.S. airstrikes on Iran in June, some personnel had already been relocated from American bases across the region.

The base was established in the late 1990s with direct support from the Qatari government, which financed most of its infrastructure as part of a long‑term strategic partnership with the United States. It became fully operational following the September 11, 2001 attacks.

This development comes amid heightened tensions between Washington and Tehran, following posts by U.S. President Donald Trump urging Iranians to continue protests and promising that “help is on the way” remarks observers interpreted as a possible signal of military action against Iran’s leadership.
