Aden — The Danish shipping company Maersk announced that its vessel Maersk Seabarok has successfully completed a voyage through the Red Sea and the Bab al-Mandab Strait, marking the first such transit in nearly two years. The move is seen as an initial step toward resuming traffic through this vital maritime corridor.

The company had diverted its ships away from the Gulf of Aden and the Red Sea in January 2024, following attacks by Yemen’s Houthi movement, which declared it was targeting vessels in solidarity with Palestinians in Gaza.

The latest passage signals a potential gradual return of commercial shipping through one of the world’s most strategic waterways, linking Asia to Europe via the Suez Canal.
