Paris – French Interior Minister Laurent Nuñez announced that the Ministry of the Interior has been hit by a serious cyberattack, during which hackers managed to access dozens of classified files, in what is considered one of the most severe cyber incidents to target French state institutions in recent years.

In an official statement, Nuñez said that preliminary investigations are still ongoing to determine the circumstances surrounding the attack, noting that current findings do not rule out the possibility of foreign interference or the involvement of individuals seeking to challenge public authorities and disrupt their operations.

The Interior Ministry confirmed that specialized teams acted immediately upon discovering the breach, with digital security measures urgently reinforced. A technical and judicial investigation has also been launched to identify those responsible, assess the extent of the damage, and ensure the protection of sensitive data to prevent similar attacks in the future.

This incident comes amid a noticeable rise in cyberattacks targeting government institutions and critical infrastructure across several European countries, once again highlighting growing cybersecurity risks and underscoring the need to strengthen digital protection systems and enhance international coordination to counter escalating threats in cyberspace.
